About The Teams | Print |

The Riviera Swim Team offers a multi-level organization operating year-round, learn-to-swim programs, as well as competitive swimming that competes at the local, state, regional and national levels. The competitive team is divided into six groups based on swimmer evaluations and age groups. Levels are as follows:

Recruits – Red Coached by Therese Love
This is the beginning competitive group often children ages 6-9. Most of the swimmers have participated in Water Wizards, a summer league program or the summer instructional swimming program. Two older swimmers, Sarah Carlson and Michael Dusing, assist Therese with this group. Red team usually swims two days a week for one hour in evenings and one hour on Saturday. The focus of red team is on stroke technique for all competitive strokes. Participation in two meets is required.

Recruits – Black Coached by Therese Love
This group for children ages 7-10. Therese is assisted on deck with older swimmer, Michael Dusing. The program's major emphasis is on stroke technique; technically correct turns and all four strokes, including the IM. In winter, this group meets three times per week for one hour. Participation in a minimum of two meets is required.

Bronze Coached by Suze Fila
This training group is for 8-11 year old children. These swimmers have started to exhibit good swimming skills and will be introduced to beginning training concepts. The Bronze team swims four to five times per week for one hour. The Bronze team member requires specific skills and a competitive characteristic to benefit from this experience. The swimmer at this level understands that their efforts will improve their performance. Stroke proficiency is necessary but continues to be developed. The swimmer begins to approach time standards and wants to compete.

Silver Coached by Joe Christoffersen, Mark O'Malley and Meredith Fredrickson
The Silver team requires all of the Bronze Team components, as well as growth and development appropriate for the aerobic activity required for this training. The students must have stroke proficiency and a commitment level commensurate with training schedule. These swimmers have started to exhibit good swimming skills. They spend their time equally between stroke technique and training skills and processes. The finer points of conditioning, quality training, race strategy, goal setting and achievement in competitive swimming are greatly emphasized. Ongoing character development, practice habits and teamwork are stressed. Silver swimmers are offered practices six days a week, ranging from one to one and half hours per day. Gold Coached by Therese Love
Gold team swimmers are well versed in technique and strategy. They are also a full-fledged training group. Generally, they have a skill level commensurate with Indiana Age Group time standards to Zone times. Most of the swimmers on the Gold team are between the ages of 13-15 years old. Workouts for gold are offered six days a week and usually last 1 1/2 – 2 hours each day. Long Course training provides up to four hours each day utilizing two practices a day. In the winter months, all of the Gold and Senior teams will often be training together. The separation of groups occurs between the levels of training among different lanes.

Senior Coached by Therese Love
The Senior team consists of the high school age swimmers and some other swimmers that exhibit a high level of swimming and workout ability. These swimmers are expected to be mature, dedicated responsible and dependable. As our more advanced swimmers increase their commitment to swimming, we insist that they maintain good academic standing and a strong practice attendance record. This level of swimmer devotes 14-18 hours of training in the water supplemented with a dryland program. Practices are 1 ½ -3 hours long for six days a week. During the summer month, often two practice sessions per day are offered. During the school year, many of these swimmers participate in school-based programs for five to six months, October-February.
